Mediums

One line, three ways in

Every piece starts as the same restless line. What it becomes depends on what Gheorghe picks up next: a pencil, a brush or a piece of the world.

Pencil

Graphite lines laid down fast and loose, then worked back into until the drawing finds its own weather.

Graphite · charcoal · ink

Paint

Broad cobalt sweeps and dry-brush edges. The same line, only now it carries colour and weight.

Acrylic · oil · pigment

Materials

Torn paper, thread, board and resin. Found surfaces that let a line leave the page.

Paper · thread · resin · board

I never know where a line wants to go. I follow it until it shows me a place that doesn't exist yet.

About

The artist behind the line

Gheorghe draws with abstract, imaginary lines that open up into expansive, almost architectural presentations.

He moves between pencil, paint and found materials without changing his voice. A graphite study can turn into a cobalt canvas, and a canvas can grow paper, thread and resin. The city outside his window shows up in the work as rhythm and height, never as a picture of itself.

He takes on a small number of commissions each year for homes, offices and public spaces.

  1. Step 1

    Line

A single unplanned line, drawn without lifting the pencil.

  2. Step 2

    Form

Shapes are found inside the line and pulled forward.

  3. Step 3

    Colour

Paint goes on in deep blues first, then the rest of the palette.

  4. Step 4

    Material

Paper, thread or resin is added where the surface needs depth.
